filmmaking

Filmmaking is my language. For the last 8 years of practicing this beautiful Craft, I’ve traversed so many genres: from advertising to dance to documentaries.

These days I find myself specializing in documentary, motion graphics, quick-turn social-media videos, and dance. I find myself frequently immersed in topics of social change and science (my training as an engineer certainly lends a hand here). Recently my films have focused on telling the diverse stories of Asian American diaspora — a tapestry of ever-growing identity, rhythm, and old/new cultures spanning across the Pacific (my personal story included).

the art of watchmaking

documentary

Documentary filmmaking is a perfect pair for me. My love for conversation and obsession with editing lend myself to the medium. You see, the way I see it, a documentary is most impactful when it is a conversation between the filmmaker and subject, therefore a conversation between film and audience. The reality of the medium also relies on editing to siphon the complex realities of our world and construct cohesive stories.

welcome mit class of 2024

motion graphics/social content

Social media content makes up a significant portion of my video production as a Student Video Producer for BU Productions. With each video, it’s always a fun challenge to create faster paced content for the modern day.

In this piece I take these skills beyond BU to help Danielle Geathers, first Black woman president of MIT, to welcome the MIT Class of 2024 during an unprecedented time. Snappy animations, sampled montages reminiscent of collages, and a powerful message all work in tandem to accure over 5000 views in 12 hours.

unofficial project

dance

When Unofficial Project approached me with their “hybrid” concept to incorporate both virtual and in-person dance to their Spring 2021 set, I was all in. The challenge? Mesh these mediums together in a visually cohesive manner to ensure the piece still has Flow. Cinematography AND motion graphics? Sign me up.

This piece is, without a doubt, my dance videography magnum opus. And a testament to the unstoppable creative energy fueling the dance community in Boston despite cancelled performances and COVID dance studio restrictions.

intro to fusion

films about engineering

By far my favorite type of films to make are the ones about Engineering. I've found that many STEM professionals and students are doing inspiring and innovative work, and it’s my honor to make their stories heard, acknowledge their widespread impact, and show just how cool their work is.

Plus, these are some of the greatest minds I’ve met and it’s wonderful to learn so much from them.

k-pop dance covers

I’ve filmed three hundred of this style of k-pop dance cover. In this time I’ve filmed for 7 independent k-pop dance cover groups who organize, learn, direct, and perform dance covers in various iconic Boston locations. This constant flow of dance covers keeps me on my toes and, due to the nature of the fast-paced scene, pushes me to new heights of efficiency and consistency. Each dance group I’ve had the honor to work with has their own vibe and energy, but what ties this community together is a love of performance, k-pop, and an unending fire that drives them to dance.

advertisement

One of the many ads that I worked on as a Resident Editor for Sleek Machine, a nimble and social-focused small ad agency based downtown Boston. I have also upkept clientele from other ad agencies in Boston as a freelance editor.

music video

Music video holds a special role in today’s society, as it originates from the raw emotional connection we hold to music. My music video work definitely reflects my abstract self, and my priority with each video is to elevate the emotion of the song.

narrative short

Narrative filmmaking is where I started! With training on the fundamentals from 3 years of film class, I have naturally gravitated towards post-production. I have since learned valuable skills from editing, color grading, or mixing sound that I've since transferred to my entire range of filmmaking.
